Blender 4.2: Precise Modeling Workshop
Learning Resources →

Whenever we have a new release of Blender a few artists will start to wonder if they will have to make changes to their workflow. One of the main reasons to have a “broken” workflow is the absence of a particular Add-on. For instance, in architectural modeling, it is hard to start a project without some great Add-ons like ArchMesh and ArchiPack.

They offer some unique options to create time-consuming objects in architecture like windows and doors.

Since Blender 2.8 introduced some significant changes to the Python API, most Add-ons would have to receive updates to work with the new environment.

What is the status? Do we have working Add-ons for Blender 2.8? Sure! There are several Add-ons already working with Blender 2.8.

To keep track of the updates, you can check this community list of working Add-ons for Blender 2.8. Unfortunately, you won't find any of the must-have Add-ons for architecture.

In any case, you can always go back to Blender 2.79 and make some quick models with a working Add-on. Save the file as a native “blend” and append the results to your brand new visualization in version 2.8. That is far from an ideal workflow but will solve all problems related to unported Add-ons for the new API.

As a side note, remember that you now have to use the Edit menu to access user preferences in Blender 2.8 and not the File menu.
