Blender 4.2: Precise Modeling Workshop
Learning Resources →

A good furniture library for architectural visualization must have lots of options with assets for all types of projects. A lounge chair is a must-have in a lot of scenarios because it is flexible enough to work in interior visualizations related to residential and commercial spaces.

Have you ever heard about the Atra Lounge Chair from Swedish designer Alexander Diaz Anderson? If you want to add a model of that chair to your asset library it is available as a free download from the Behance page from Portuguese artist Vasco Pata.

You will find the model available in several formats like MAX, OBJ, and FBX. Here is the model already in Blender 2.8 as a single mesh object, which you will probably want to edit before adding it to your furniture library.

Once you import the model to Blender, you will notice that it is a single object. Select the model and go to Edit Mode. There you can select individual parts of the Atra Lounge chair and separate them in individual objects.

A couple of shortcuts that will help you edit this model:

  • CTRL+L: Selects all linked objects. For instance, you can easily select the seat cushion by clicking at one vertex and pressing CTRL+L. All connected vertices will be part of your selection.
  • CTRL+P: Separate objects. You can select any part of a model and trigger this shortcut. Pick the “selected” option and they will become a new object.

Having the parts of this object as separate meshes will help you set up all materials and also manage the furniture model.
