An interesting project posted at the Blender Artists forums from a user named “Detective” might help you learn a few aspects of how to light interior scenes. The project has a simple and straightforward name of “Living Room”. For that particular scene, you will find lots of free assets used by the author coming from BlendSwap.

If you take a couple of minutes to visit the original thread at the forum, you will find some screenshots with key settings for this render.

For instance, you will learn how the artist used a simple panoramic texture and the emission shader to create the lighting. He also shares the layout of the emission shader on the outside, which is incredibly simple.

That is a great overview of this project and might give you some important insights to use fewer resources for your next interior render with Cycles.
