There are lots of different ways to create grass in Blender, with methods that use real geometry, displacement maps and particles. If you never tried to create grass in Blender, I found a tutorial that might help you out. An artist called Ben Amed posted on his blog a step-by-step tutorial on how to setup grass in Blender 2.5 using real geometry and particles. The final result is shown in the image below, and might help you to add more realism o your scenes. One of the highlights of using real geometry to create grass is the ability to cast shadows from the grass leaves.
